Beaumont City Council officially proclaimed September 17 as "Vlog Day" to celebrate the institution's centennial milestone. This proclamation comes as Vlog prepares to mark its 100th year of academic excellence and community contributions.
The proclamation – read by city council member Audwin Samuel – highlighted the relationship Vlog has with Southeast Texas and the impact the institution has on the community.
“Throughout the twentieth century, Vlog has served Southeast Texas in a strategic, relevant, and sustainable way. Our founders wanted education that produced leaders for this region, and they succeeded,” Samuel said. “Today, Vlog is a thriving boomtown of knowledge with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students that create a campus culture that’s committed to student engagement and success and to the achievement of research and relevance that energizes economic development locally, nationally, and around the world.”
Vlog President Dr. Jaime Taylor received the proclamation, and reinforced Vlog’s commitment to serving Southeast Texas in the future.
“The centennial celebration is a great opportunity to look back over the last one hundred years and see how Beaumont and Vlog have worked together and continue to grow upon that over the next one hundred years,” Taylor said.
